You can get involved at the Agape Center and show Christ's love to those in need.   You may come in during our open hours for a tour, or call 540-296-0609 to schedule in advance.  A volunteer application can be completed at that time, or if you prefer to fill out in advance and email it to beckyblackman@agapecentersml.org.

Below are descriptions of some of our volunteer roles:

​

Receptionist: Provide a warm greeting to clients upon their arrival. Issue clients their pantry appointment cards. Nominal computer work. Must stay at desk throught the shift.

​

USDA Receptionist: Meet with clients to enter and update their information on the USDA website using a computer tablet.

​

Telephone Operator: Reply to callers. Transcribe messages from calls and voice messages. Schedule appointments and furniture pick-ups. Prepare report at the end of the day.

​

Bread Pickup: Wednesdays at 10 AM, work on a 2 person team to pick up bread from Lake Christian Ministries (5 minute drive) and unload into the walk-in coolers at Agape.​

​

Donation Sorter: Be available on Monday morning to assist in sorting clothing, bedding, household items, etc. Helpful if available to come in other times on short notice. Good job for those who can make quick decisions and don't minde getting a bit dirty.

​

Clothing Reception: Come in on a regular basis (once a month or more frequently if possible) to sort clothing. Ideal for groups or individuals.

​

Library Sorter: Sort, screen, and shelve incoming book and media donations. Distribute unused materials to other organizations. Help clients and volunteers find materials.

 

Furniture/Appliance Coordinator: Oversee the transporting of large item pickups - keep photo record of items that have come in and items that have gone out. Assign a category number to every large item that is donated.

 

Maintenance Committee Coordinator: Be responsible for getting individuals to make small repairs to the interior and exterior of the Agape Center.

 

Store Volunteer: On the Tuesdays, Thursdays, and/or Saturdays that Agape is open, assist clients in finding their size clothing, bagging items, assisting with their children while a Mentor is talking with them, etc. Store volunteers typically work one or two days a month. Store volunteers can also help after hours to keep the store stocked and orderly.

​

Pantry Food Unloader: Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays at 1 PM, weigh and log food deliveries, store food, and restock pantry shelves. Check freezer and refrigerator temperatures.

 

Food Pantry Distributor: Be available to work one afternoon a month or on a Saturday morning in the food pantry at the Agape Center putting together food packages for clients.

​

Mentor Be willing to meet with one or two families once a month at the Agape Center - listen to their needs and prayer concerns - pray with them

 

Transportation Committee: Be available to pickup or deliver large items.

 

Firewood Committee: Help with the splitting, loading, and delivering of firewood to clients during the winter months.

 

Public Relations: Work with the Agape Center's Director in getting out information including brochures and signs.
